Double Dutch Fold card

Today I want to share with you a Double Dutch Fold card using the wonderful stamp set “Good Morning Magnolia” Stamp set and the “Magnolia Memory” dies and the coordinating “Magnolia Lane” Designer Series Paper( DSP) Although the Dsp is now retired, you can still purchase the stamps and the coordinating dies. I still had DSP on hand so decided use it because, well, why not? That is why we buy it, right? The centre front panel was cut from the Free as a Bird Stitched Nested Labels Dies. I use these dies a lot since there are 9 different sizes to choose from and they are perfect for all sorts of projects.

I love this type of card because it is a unique fold that folds flat for mailing in a standard A4 envelope and when it opens up, it stands up beautifully on a table for display. Although I used some retired designer series paper, you can use another type. Please visit my online store to see all the wonderful paper packages available.

Double Dutch Fold Card

To make this card you will need the following card stock;

  • Early Espresso – 9 “ x 4 3/16” (card base)
  • Early Espresso – 8½”  x  2″ (card base)
  • Early Espresso – 3″ x 5″ (front centre piece)
  • Magnolia Lane DSP – 3″ x 5″ (front centre piece)
  • Whisper white – 4 1/4″ x 5 1/4″ (inside of card) and scraps for stamping the flowers
  • Magnolia Lane DSP – 2 each of 1 3/4″ x 1 3/4″ (bottom panels)
  • Magnolia Lane DSP – 4″ x 3 1/2″ (top panel)
  • Magnolia Lane DSP – 2 each 1″ x 5 1/4″ (inside panels)
  • Blender Pens – Petal Pink, Old Olive and Crumb Cake
  • Free as a bird – Hexagon Dies

To make your card base – For the larger piece of Early Espresso, score on the long side at 5 1/2″ and fold. For the smaller piece, score on the long side at 2 1/8″ at each end and fold inwards so both ends meet in the middle but do not overlap. I use my bone folder to create a nice crisp fold.

Line up the smaller piece at the back of the card along the bottom of the larger base to ensure it all lines up and can fold flat. If the smaller piece puckers a little, trim the larger piece a smidgen so it will lie flat then adhere the smaller piece to the back of the card. This will allow the folds to wrap around to the front of the card as shown.

This is now your card base and you can set it aside for now (I used different card stock for this picture so it is easier to see)

Stamp three flowers and the “Hello” sentiment on white card stock and colour the flowers. I used my blender pens; Petal Pink for the flowers, Old Olive for the leaves and Crumb Cake for the stem. Die cut the flowers using the Cut & Embossing machine or whatever cutting machine you have. Using the second smallest hexagon die from the “Free as a Bird” Set, cut out the sentiment. Set them aside.

For the center front piece – Using the largest hexagon die from the same set, cut out your mat from the Early Espresso card stock. Using the next largest die, cut out the Magnolia Lane DSP. Line up the DSP and adhere to the mat and set aside.

To assemble your card, fold up your panels and adhere the Magnolia Lane DSP to the top and bottom panels. If you choose to use directional DSP make sure they are lined up properly before adhering. Position the hexagon in the center of the card, over the folded panels and adhere to the top panel, making sure that you don’t glue the over lap portion. Decorate the hexagon with the flowers and the sentiment to your liking. I adhered the flowers directly to the front and then used dimmensionals for the sentiment. Your card should now look like this.

To decorate the inside of the card. Stamp your sentiment to the center of your card stock and adhere the DSP panels to each side, ensuring they line up to the top and side edges. Turn over the card stock and if there is any overlap, trim it off. Adhere the card stock to the inside of the card. It should look like this. If you wanted to, you could also add DSP to the inside panels on the top and bottom of the card, but I felt it might look too busy so chose not to.

Your card is now complete
