Eclipse Card

Happy Friday! I hope you are enjoying a wonderful day. Today I want to show you this adorable card. It’s an eclipse card which carries over your stamped design and provides some added interest to your card front. I also couldn’t resist using the new In-Color 2021-2023 colours again. To me, they are absolutely lovely. What better way to show them off with this lovely card.

To Make this card

Take your card base and score it at 4 1/4″ on the long side. Fold and crease with your bone folder and set aside for now.

For the card front.

Stamp your images as you would normally. I love these flowers from the Colour and Contour stamp set (13 stamps) which is a stamp set from the new annual catalogue, available May 4th. It can be purchased separately but it also comes as a bundle with 8 dies including 5 scalloped rectangles, a border die and two flower dies.

For this card, I used the Pale Papaya, Polished Pink and Fresh Freesia for the flowers. I then stamped the leaves in Soft succulent and sponged a little colour on the leaves. The background “spots” are also part of this stamp set.

Once you are happy with your design, place your Layering ovals (retiring) over your design taking care to ensure it is evenly spaced and that the stamped image overlaps all three layers. I used a little washi tape to hold it in place, then cut it out using my cut & emboss machine.

Once you have cut out the layers, you’ll have your base front, an oval frame and the oval center.

Go ahead and adhere the base to the Soft Succulent mat. Don’t adhere the centre just yet. I also stamped my sentiment from the same stamp set, to the bottom corner in Evening Evergreen.

TIP: The ovals could also be replaced with circle, square or rectangle dies as well, for a different look.

Now, on the back of your frame, wrap a foam adhesive strip around the frame. These double sided strips are similar to dimmensionals but come in long strips so they are very versatile for all sorts of projects.

No I didn’t make a mistake and put it on the front. I stamped it first but wasn’t happy with it so I just turned it over and redid it. It happens! Remove the backing and line up the frame with your stamped image on the card front and press gently. Once you have done that you can line up and adhere the center piece with your stamped images. Stamp and adhere the card stock for the inside of the card. Since I am not sure what I want to do with that yet, I left the inside blank for the time being.

I added a Bumble Bee trinket to the front of the card as well, just because they are so cute. They are also in the new catalogue. How cute is this finished card? I love how this card is just so cheerful looking. Who wouldn’t love to receive it.

I loved this card so much that I decided to make another using the Layering circles dies (not retiring). I also decided to create a larger frame this time.

I stamped my images and sentiment from the Prized Peony Stamp set, masking the flowers as I went and coloured the images using the same colours. The card base is Gray Ganite.

I have to say, although I am pleased with the result, I think I prefer the Oval frame over the circle frame. Maybe it’s just the width of the frame, not sure.
