Christmas – Accordian Fun Fold Card

I have a lot of retired christmas stamps which I love to use over and over again. Today I pulled out the Merry Moose stamp and punch set to create this card. It’s a really easy card to make and I love how it stands up when displayed on a table top. It also works perfectly with the current Tidings of Christmas Designer Series Paper. I love how the old works so well with the new, don’t you?

I call this an accordion card because of the folds. I don’t have another name for it so I figure it’s a good name for it.

To make this card

I started by taking my card base and scored it on the long side at 1 3/8″, 2 3/4″, 4 1/8″ and 5 1/2″. I then proceeded to fold the score lines to create my accordion look and burnished all the fold lines with my bone folder.

I first folded the 5 1/2″ score line as you would with a regular card (valley fold). I then folded the other score lines as follows; 1 3/8″ (Mountain fold) 2 3/4″ (Valley fold) 4 1/8″ (Mountain fold). You should now have that accordion look on the left side of your card.

I also took the 3 x 4 1/2″ Basic Black card stock and scored it a 2 1/4″ on the long side and folded it in half and burnished with my bone folder.

TIP: If you are not familiar with the valley and mountain terminology, think of it this way; The letter “M” looks like a Mountain with two peaks and a Valley in the middle. That is how you would fold your card stock, M for Mountain and V for Valley

Why do you score first? As you can see in the picture below, the top paper was just folded and you can see how the paper is cracked and the fold line isn’t nice and straight. The bottom paper has been scored and folded and makes a nice clean fold. It just makes your finished card or project look better.

Once all the folds have been creased, I then glued the Cherry Cobbler mat to the inside of the card. I then assembled and adhered my panels of the Designer Series Paper with the Cherry Cobbler Panels and glued the to the first three folds of the card. You could add a fourth panel, but I chose not to. I did the same with the DSP for the smaller black card stock piece.

I wanted the inside greeting to be hidden when the card is closed so I positioned the smaller piece and closed my card. I made a small pencil mark to show the overlap then I then stamped my greeting so it wouldn’t show (an almost forgot to erase my pencil mark) I also stamped the cute image in the bottom corner and coloured it with blender pens before adhering to the inside of the card. I then adhered the smaller black piece of card stock to the panels as shown. For the front of the card, punched out the moose and glued to the front. I then stamped my greeting and glued a bit of gold string to the back before adding it to the card with dimmensional’s. Of course I added some left over bling to the front of the card for a little extra.
