I love making regular cards but it is also fun to make non-standard cards and various 3D projects just for the variety and because… well, they are just fun to make. Do we need a better reason? Each Friday, I will post something different to make. It could be a fun fold card, a gift box, a gift bag or who knows, something else. I hope my projects will inspire you to try to make them as well.
So today I wanted to share this fun fold card with you. It is called a “Double Z fold card” and it folds flat to fit into an envelope. When you open it, it unfolds to the larger card shown. You can find all kinds of examples online.
To make this card you will need the following;
Cardstock for the card base measuring 11″ long x 4″ wide and a second piece at 11″ long x 2″ wide. In this example, I used Seaside Spray. Place the larger piece horizontally on your simply scored scoring tool and score at 2 3/4″ and again at 5 1/2″. Repeat with the second piece as well.
If you don’t have a simply scored scoring tool, you can also use the new Stampin’ Up! Paper Trimmer since it has a built in scoring tool attached. I have both and use them all the time as they make measuring so simple.
Fold each piece as shown. Do you see the Z folds?
For this card, I chose to use the Paper Blooms Designer Series paper from the Sale-a-Bration brochure. It is just one of the freebies you can choose from, with every $60.00 purchase during Sale-a-bration. Should you wish to see all the new products, please visit my online store. Anyone who orders from me and uses my January HOST CODE – BXA2GN37, during the month of January will be entered into a draw for a free gift from me.
At this point you can add your Designer series paper to decorate before assembling. However, before you do, turn the smaller piece so the longer end is facing in the opposite direction. See the picture below.
DSP measurements as as follows;
- 5 1/4″ x 3 3/4″ Bottom right
- 2 12″ x 2 3/4″ Bottom left
- 2 1/2″ x 1 3/4″ Top right
- 5 1/4″ x 1 3/4″ Top left
- 2 1/2″ x 1 3/4″ Whisper White (not shown) Top middle for a stamped greeting
Now you are ready to assemble. First, flip over the smaller piece so the DSP is facing down and line up the long end over the left part of the card base. With a pencil, mark a small line where the edge is because that is where you want to stop glueing. Add your adhesive to that line and flip over to apply to the left portion of the card base ensuring it is flush with the card edge. I chose to place mine about 1″ from the bottom but you can place it anywhere, just ensure it is lined up straight.
Once the long piece is adhered, open up the card and secure the short end of the smaller piece by adding adhesive to the fold line and lining it up to the right part of the card base, ensuring it is also flush with the card edge.. Your card should look like this now. I did stamp and add the whisper white to the inside of the card as you can see but it is optional.
And this is how your card will look when it’s closed. I punched out a 2″ circle in Whisper White and stamped it with the sentiment. I then punched out a starburst in Night of Navy and adhered the two to the front of the card. However, it could be decorated any way you like. This is just one of many examples.
