Hi everyone, Today I want to share with you a sponging technique card. I love sponging and use it a lot when creating nice backgrounds. However, today’s card is a little bit different and it’s so easy to make. Just a single stamp and die bundle and a little ink and you have a beautiful card.
For this card, I am using the COLOUR AND CONTOUR (#158536) stamp set and coordinating dies from the new annual catalogue 2021-2022. I absolutely love all the scalloped rectangles as well as the edging die. The two flower dies line up perfectly with the stamp flowers to make your crafting easy. To make this card.
Score the card base at 4 1/4″ and fold and crease with your bone folder. Using the largest rectangle die, cut out the open scalloped rectangle for your mat and adhere to your card front. Set aside for now
Using the second largest die, cut out the closed scalloped rectangle as shown. This will be the your card front that will be sponged. I love the stitching around it? It just adds a little something, don’t you think?
I used a sponge dauber, and sponged along the bottom of the paper, lightly so it’s not too dark. I then took a piece of with a straight edge to use as a mask. I moved it up about 4 scallops, changed colour and sponged again. Make sure to leave a little white space between the colours just for added contrast.
The background should be a nice soft look and aside from the bottom portion, It should not be an even line, straight across. I repeated this process two more times, moving up the card stock and changing colours each time. Don’t be afraid to change up the colours, for a different look. Just keep in mind it should match up with your card base colour.
Once you are happy with your colours and sponging, line up the flower and your sentiment stamp and stamp them in Memento Black ink. I love how it stands out over the background. It just pops…Go ahead and adhere to the front of your card.
Now stamp your sentiment for the inside of the card and adhere in place. So, how easy was that?
I made these two cards as well, using the other flower and the different sentiments from the same stamp set and different colour combinations. I only used the largest rectangle on these cards and I chose not to use the flower background stamp, preferring just the outline.
I love how one stamp and die bundle can make so many different cards, each one unique.
Between all the rectangles, the flower dies, the scalloped edge and all the stamped images available, I can see myself using this set to make all sorts of cards and projects. I see all sorts of possibilities whenever I look at this set.

- Crushed Curry card stock
- Card base – 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″
- Basic White Card stock
- 5 1/4″ x 4″ – (cut 2) Card front mat and inside card
- 5″ x 4″ – Card front
- Stamp Bundle – Colour and Contour stamp & dies
- Ink pads – Memento Black ink, Mint Macaron, Crushed Curry, Daffodil Delight.
