50th Birthday Slim line Card

Hi Everyone, I recently received a request to create a 50th birthday card. The birthday lady loves purple so of course my card had to have elements of Purple in the card.

I decided to make a slim line card, which I hadn’t made in a while. It fits perfectly in Stampin’ Up’s new release of Slim Line envelopes. These Slimline Envelopes are designed to be the perfect fit for tall, slender greeting cards.  Each package contains 5 each of the three different colours for a total of 15 envelopes. The colours include White, Soft Succulent and Smokey Slate and they measure 3-7/8″ x 8-7/8″. I love how the inside isn’t plain as well.

To make this card

I scored my card stock at 3 1/2″ along the 7″ side. I then folded and burnished the fold line with my bone folder. I adhered the Silver Foil DSP to the card front and set aside. For the white card front, I stamped some background texture from the Painted Poppies stamp set, in Basic Gray. I did this several times, stamping off on some scrap paper first so it didn’t appear too dark.

As you can see, there are a lot of dies in the Poppy Moments die set and I used a lot of them for this card. I first cut out the large and small solid floral dies in Velum. Next I die cut the Lacey die in velum as well. I trimmed away any borders from the paper as I only wanted to use the lacey part. I flipped them over to the back and coloured them with my light Highland Heather blender pen to give a very light colour. I then cut out the floral edged dies in Gorgeous Grape to provide some contrast to the flower. Next I cut out the floral centres in Basic White. I just love how these dies fit together perfectly. After gluing them all together to create my completed flowers, I put them aside.

I then cut out the number 50 out of silver foil. I stamped and heat embossed my greeting in Silver on Gorgeous Grape card stock. I used the stamp set Special Moments which includes a 21 different stamps covering all sorts of greetings. The Happy Birthday greeting was all one word so I cut and trimmed the paper to make two separate words.

Now to put it all together.

First I positioned all the pieces on my basic white piece until I was happy with how it looked. I adhered the leaves first with liquid glue, then added dimensional’s to the back of the two flowers, being careful not to have them show through the velum. I even cut some very thin strips and added then to the outline in a few spots. I adhered the Lacey velum directly to the right hand side of the piece then positioned the greeting and number on top. Once I was happy with how it looked, I added mini dimensionals to the sentiments and adhered the number to the card front directly.

After I adhered the white piece to the silver foil, I added a few gems around the card for added bling. For the inside of the card, I stamped two small flowers in Highland Heather and then I stamped the greeting in Gorgeous Grape over the floral images. I like that look a lot. Of course I had to do the same on the front of the envelope to add a little extra interest. It is the first thing you see after all.
