Making use of Retired products.

Hello my crafting friends. Every year my husband asks me to make up a number of gift card holders in the form of cards. He likes a little space so he can add his own personal message before giving these cards to his employees. Today I would like to show you how you can use up some retired products, to make gift card holders.

This card is easy to make and you can easily make batch cards in any amount using these instructions. I am using Christmas paper from last year which helps me get rid of excess paper so there is room for this year’s gorgeous papers.

To make this card

Use any card stock you have on hand as long as it compliments your patterned paper.

Take your card base and score at 5 1/2″ x 9 1/4″ on the long side. Fold and burnish the middle score line to create your card and then fold in the smaller score line and burnish. This will be the gift card holder portion.

Take any punch you have on hand and punch out a small portion of the end piece as shown. It could be as simple as a half circle or a portion of a more detailed punch. I used a label punch and only punched out a little bit. Add Tear & Tape along the sides then fold and close.

OPTION: Add tape just inside the score line, to make it even more secure

Prepare all your pieces in advance as shown below, I pretty much do this whenever I am making a number of cards with the same design.  It can also be done in stages as time permits.  I find it really easy to assemble afterwards when everything is done in advance. (less messy too lol)
    • Layer and adhere the patterned paper to the card stock on your left, adhering the ribbon to the back with a glue dot.
    • Stamp your greeting for the inside of the card. I stamped at the top so a message could be written underneath
    • Layer and adhere the patterned paper to the card stock
    • Stamp your greeting and adhere to a mat (it can be any shape you have on hand). Add Dimensionals to the back

And this is how it all looks when put together. To finish off the front, add a bow to the top of the greeting or decorate with colourful gems.

And there you have it, multiple cards using up retired designer series paper and assorted ribbons. This method could also be used for birthday cards, or any other occasion where a gift card might be needed. To make this design as just a card and not a gift card, start with a card base of 4 1/4″ x 9 1/4″ and follow the instructions, ignoring the gift card portion.
