A fun technique using strips of paper – Part 2

Having a lot of scrap of paper can be overwhelming so today I want to show you another way to use up those scraps. Today, I am going to show you how to create fun greetings or sentiments using scraps of paper.

So let’s get started.

First of all, take your scraps of paper and cut them into 1/2″ strips approximately 5-6″ in length. The strips can be card stock or patterned paper, whatever you have on hand will work. Now adhere the strips in any order onto a 4 x 5″ piece of card stock as shown below. Once adhered, flip over and trim the ends that overlap. I have done this with card stock as well but didn’t take a picture (oops) so below are two examples of designer series paper I used, one horizontal and the other is diagonal. Vertical would work too. When making this up, just keep going and make up several pieces. Colours can be random or you can grade the colours from light to dark. Seriously there is no wrong way to do this.

Now for this technique I am using the “Wanted to Say” dies (item #161594) because these dies have both the background and the words as separate dies as you can see below. You could also use the “Love for You” dies (#160403) which will be retiring at the end of April so if you don’t have it, grab it before it is retired for good.

Now place both the background dies and the word dies anywhere you like on the card stock. I tried to fit as many as possible on my paper pieces without giving it much thought. Run them through the cutting and embossing machine several times because of the extra thickness so the words will pop out easily.

Now do the same thing with Black card stock, using both the back ground and the word dies. Once you have all the dies cut out, separate them so the coloured backgrounds have the black words and the black backgrounds have the coloured words. You could also cut out the words in White or coloured card stock for yet another look. Below is just a sample of what I have done with both card stock and designer series paper.

Pretty Cool right?

I have to warn you making up these colourful words can be very addictive . If you ever need to just do some mindless crafting without designing anything, this is the technique for you. You can just cut and glue strips of paper without much thought then die cut and glue them together. You will have a supply of fun and colourful greetings in no time plus the scrap pile is just a little smaller.

So now that I have all my greetings, I want to show you a few cards I made using these greetings. Each of these cards are using strips of card stock or designer series paper. The possibilities are endless
