Tips and Techniques – Inks

February 16, 2021
by Susan Beale

16 Feb

Today I would like to talk about the various types of ink available with Stampin’ Up!. The Classic Stampin’ Pads contain a fast drying, dye-based ink that is great for general stamping or for colouring techniques like watercolouring.

There are quite a few types and each has it’s own purpose. Although the various colours are grouped into collections to take the guesswork out of colour coordination. Each Ink pad can be purchased separately. Refills are also available for purchase.

Many other products come in the same exclusive colours, so it’s easy to pair stamp pads with card stock, markers, embellishments, and more!

Below is a breakdown of each of the Classic Stampin’ Pads collection;

Regals Collection The collection contains 10 pads, 1 each of the following Product colours:

Blackberry Bliss, Cajun Craze, Cherry Cobbler, Crushed Curry, Garden Green, Old Olive, Pumpkin Pie, Real Red, Rich Razzleberry, Shaded Spruce

Brights Collection The collection contains 10 pads, 1 each of the following Product colours:

Bermuda Bay, Coastal Cabana, Daffodil Delight, Flirty Flamingo, Granny Apple Green, Gorgeous Grape, Mango Melody, Melon Mambo, Pacific Point, Poppy Parade

Subltes Collection The collection contains 10 pads, 1 each of the following Product colours:

Balmy Blue, Blushing Bride, Calypso Coral, Highland Heather, Mint Macaron, Pear Pizzazz, Petal Pink, Pool Party, So Saffron, Soft Sea Foam

Neutrals Collection The collection contains 10 pads, 1 each of the following Product colours:

Basic Gray, Crumb Cake, Early Espresso, Gray Granite, Merry Merlot, Mossy Meadow, Night of Navy, Sahara Sand, Smoky Slate, Soft Suede

In-Colour Collections are a little different in that they are only available for a limited time (usually 2 years). There are currently two collections available

2019-2021 in color The collection will expire June 2021 and will no longer be available.

The collection contains 4 pads, 1 each of the following Product colours;

Pretty Peacock, Rococo Rose, Seaside Spray, Terracotta Tile

2020-2022 In Colour Collection. The collection will expire June 2022 and will no longer be available.

The collection contains 5 pads, 1 each of the following Product colours:

Bumblebee, Cinnamon Cider, Just Jade, Magenta Madness, Misty Moonlight

Aside from all the wonderful colours, there are also some basic ink pads to look at.

Tuxedo Black Memento Ink Pad

This is your basic, go-to black ink pad. It works great for stamping images or sentiments on card stock. It’s also makes it easy to use with your Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers because you can easily colour your stamped images.

Jet Black Stazon Ink Pad. This pad is a permanent ink and should not be used on card stock. However it is great for stamping images you want to watercolour or for stamping on Window Sheets (acetate), cellophane bags, and other nonporous surfaces.

Saddle Brown StazOn Ink Pad This pad works the same way at the Jet Black Stazon Ink Pad above. However, rather than it being Jet Black, it is a Saddle Brown colour. Depending on your project, you may prefer this colour instead of the more standard jet Black ink.

CAUTION: When using both the StazOn Ink pads (Jet Black or Saddle Brown) Stamps should be cleaned with StazOn Cleaner after using StazOn ink. To protect the adhesive on cling stamp labels, rinse cling stamps with water immediately after using StazOn Cleaner.

Versamark Pad

VersaMark ink is used almost exclusively for Heat embossing. Once you stamp your image with this ink pad, cover the image with embossing powder. Use the heat tool to melt the powder on your stamped images for a little extra bling on your card. The effects are stunning. (more on this on another Tuesday Tip)

NOTE: When you stamp your image on your card stock, your stamped image will appear a few shades darker than the card stock it’s stamped on. It makes it great for creating tone-on-tone or watermark effects.

Well I hope you enjoy this post and maybe understand a little bit more about the various inks and their usage.

As always, I welcome your feedback
