Gone Fishing Pop up card

I wanted to share with you a different take on the “Gone Fishing” bundle and the coordinating DSP from Stampin’ Up! This lovely bundle and coordinating designer series paper is perfect for the fisherman (or woman) in your lives. As you can see in the pictures below, the stamp set is geared towards Father’s Day or retirement cards and I love how you can create a tackle box with all sorts of lures inside. They work so well with the coordinating designer series paper. I will have a picture of that below but today, I wanted to create a birthday card using these same elements.

This card is a combination of a Z fold card with three pop ups and as you can see, it stands up for display on a table top. It also collapses to tuck into a standard envelope for mailing.

I love how the water cascades over the pop ups with the fish swimming upstream. Do you know someone who loves to fish?

This card would be perfect for them.

Before starting, I recommend that you do all your paper cutting in advance so it’s easier to put it all together. Although I don’t always do this when creating, in this case, it really did help when you put it all together. You can also stamp your greeting and fishing lures, then die cut them before putting them aside for now. So assuming you have done your cutting and scoring, lets put this together.

To Make this card

Fold your card base in half at the 4″ score line, then fold the 2″ score line backwards to create your Z fold. Burnish both score lines. Adhere the base DSP to the card front.

Optional: I didn’t mat my card base, but if you wanted to, just cut out a mat of the same size, and then cut the DSP 1/4″ smaller

For the back of the card, I stamped the greeting “Good things come to those who wait” with a couple of stamped lures in the bottom corner. Fishing is about patience after all, right? I then adhered it to the back of my card base.

I then adhered all the DSP pieces to the Basic white matting pieces. Once that was done I glued the left panel to my card front.

For my blocks, I lined up the blocks vertically, making sure ½” part is on the right hand side I then adhered the DSP pieces for the blocks onto the white mats and glued to the blocks between the 1st and 2nd score lines on the left.  Each block section should be like this.

1-blank, 2-DSP, 3-blank, 4-blank

To create the three block pop ups

With the DSP facing up and the ½” on the right, add adhesive to section 1 open the card base and line it up with the creased fold line on your card base, making sure it is centered to the top to bottom.  Fold your left panel over it to close and seal.  Open the card again and then open up your block and add adhesive to the ½” portion (section 4).  Fold it backwards towards the left panel (2 score lines) then fold the left panel over it to close and seal again.

Repeat the exact same process for the remaining two blocks.

To finish off your card, adhere your greeting to the matting.  Line it up so it is center to your blocks.  Add dimensionals to the back of your greeting so it is only attached to the front left panel ONLY.  You don’t want to glue your card closed after all. Decorate the front of the greeting with your stamped lures and any gems you might want to add.

To decorate your envelope, add similar DSP to the back flap and stamp a lure on the front.

And there you have it!
