Perfect card for a simple sentiment

I love this card for its simplicity. It could be used as a birthday card or sympathy card.

Supplies required and directions are shown below. If you are missing the needed supplies, click on the shop now button to see all the amazing products offered.

Cut paper as follows;

  • card base – 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 – fold in half so card is 4 1/4 x 5 1/2
  • Pear Pizazz – cut to 4 x 5 1/4 (mat)
  • Very Vanilla – cut to 3 3/4 x 5 (cut 2)
  • Punch one each Pear Pizazz & Very Vanilla

Using a scrap paper 3 3/4 x 5″ punch a 2′ circle where you would like the circle to show on the card front. I placed it a bit to the side about 1 1/2 ” from the bottom Place this piece of paper over the very vanilla cardstock. Using the sponge brayer, gently run it over the pear Pizazz ink in one direction only for even coverage. Roll it over the circle (again one direction only) until you like how it looks then remove the scrap. I chose to make it very light at the top and darker as you go to the bottom of the circle. Stamp the tree image using Old Olive so it lies just below the circle but so the branches overlap the circle.

Adhere the matting to the front of the card Wrap the ribbon around the base of the very vanilla, below the stamped image and tie a knot or if you prefer a bow. Adhere to the matting on the front of the card Stamp a sentiment to the punched out label then adhere to the pear pizazz label using the snail adhesive. I used the Happy Birthday from the Beautiful You Stamp set for this card but you could put any sentiment on to suit the occasion. Place dimmensionals to the back and adhere to the front of the card so it overlaps the ribbon. Adhere the second Very Vanilla card stock to the inside of the card and either write or stamp another sentiment.

And there you have it a beautiful but simple card

National Lighthouse Day

National Lighthouse Day honors and commemorates a beacon of light that symbolizes safety and security for boats at sea.

On August 7, 1789, through an Act of Congress, the Federal Government took over responsibility for building and operating our nation’s lighthouses. The government recognized the importance to ships at sea to find safe harbor during fog and storms. Over the years, lighthouses have saved many ships, and an untold  number of lives.

Throughout maritime history, Lighthouses have shined their powerful, sweeping lights through the fog and storms, allowing ships of all kinds to find their way back to port during inclement weather. With the advent of radar and GPS technology, lighthouses have taken a back seat in guiding ships to port. However, they remain the universal symbol of safe harbor to ships and communities that rely upon the sea for their livelihood.

There are numerous local and national lighthouse preservation societies and lighthouse organizations. They serve to preserve and promote lighthouses, and their historical significance to communities, and to the nation.

Enjoy National Lighthouse Day by visiting a lighthouse, or learning more about your local lighthouse preservation society. Or, read a book about lighthouses.

Origin of National Lighthouse Day:

On this day in 1789, the U.S. Congress enacted legislation allowing the federal government control over the creation and maintenance of lighthouses.  This special day evolved out of this event, and in recent years, through efforts to preserve lighthouses as a important historical symbol in America.

July 30 – National Day of Friendship

The world is filled with too much hatred, too much fighting and too much mistrust of others. The International Day of Friendship is certainly an opportunity to stop, and to reverse, these worldwide problems.

According to the United Nations, the official sponsor of this special day, the International Day of Friendship is a day set aside to promote friendship among peoples, cultures and countries. Today is a time to encourage efforts towards peace, and to build bridges among different people. It is a day of respect for others, and a day to celebrate diversity.

According to the United Nations, on this day people, groups and governments should hold events and activities to promote mutual understanding and reconciliation.

On an individual level, use this day to promote friendship in big and small ways. You can begin by “extending an olive branch” to a sibling or a family member, a neighbor, or an old friend who we’ve had a falling out with. If we all try just a little the world will be a friendlier, more peaceful place.

Origin of International Day of Friendship:

The origin of International Day of Friendship has roots as far back as 1919 in the United States. The country of Paraguay  first celebrate this day on an national level on July 30, 1958.  Other countries with early celebrations include: several countries in South America, Bangladesh, India, and Malaysia. Different countries celebrated this day on varying dates in July, August and April.

In 2011, the United Nations declared this an official international day, to be celebrated annually on July 30th.

A simple card for any occasion

This is a cute card for any occasion. I left the inside blank until I am ready to use it.

Cut paper as follows;
Purple Posy – card base. 11 x 4 1/4″
Whisper White – 4 x 5 1/4″ (x2)
Silver Foil – 1/4 x 5 1/2″
Purple Posy – scrap – punch out butterflies
Whisper White – scrap – sentiment
Scrap paper – 6 x 4″

Fold card base in half and burnish edge, set aside.
Align scrap paper approximately two inches from the left edge of the whisper white card stock to protect that side of the card. Make sure the paper is straight. Using the stamp set and the ink pad, randomly stamp images on the 2″ of card stock that is not covered. Adhere the silver strip of paper between the stamped images and the blank part of the card stock. This gives a nice separation between the two. Adhere to the front of the card using the snail adhesive.

Stamp sentiment on the white cardstock and die cut using the Free as a Bird hexagon die.
Do the same with a slightly larger die cut for the foil background. Adhere the white sentiment to the front of the foil then using mini dimensionals add to the front of the card.
Tie a bow and glue to the top of the sentiment or just below it on the top left edge.
Punch out the two butterflies and glue to the front of the card.

Adhere the second piece of cardstock to the inside of the card. At this time, I left the inside of the card blank until I need it so I can add a sentiment later.

If desired,
Using the second whisper white card stock, stamp a sentiment in the centre and then using the same stamp from the front of the card, stamp a bit of design in the corner or however you wish.
Adhere to the inside of the card and you have a beautiful card for any occasion.

Keeping cool in the heat wave

Hi everyone, well we are certainly experiencing some hot weather this week. Given the Canadian winters, I have no problem with this. I was golfing last night with my ladies golf league in 38C humidity, and drinking lots of water. I even won the 50/50 draw so all in all, it was a good day.

At home I am staying inside in the air conditioning and doing what I love, crafting. I have a card class next week so was finishing up some of the prep work required. Below are the three cards we will be making. Each one is unique and requires different techniques which I like to demonstrate. If you have an interest in learning new techniques or would like to get together just to socialize while we make cards, please register on my blog. Next Class is Aug 14th and spots are limited.
