Trying something new – Pinwheel Tower Gift Card

Hi everyone, today I want to share with you how to make a Pinwheel Tower Card. I’ve seen a few of these cards before so thought I would give it a try. I cannot believe how easy it is to put together. I also love creating unique ways to give a gift card so when putting this card together, I decided to make it into a gift card holder. I can already picture making up a birthday card, with or without the gift card. The posibilities are many and so fast to put together if you are in need of a great card in a hurry.

To Make this card

Take the base card stock and score at 3/4″ 1 1/2″ 2 1/4″ and 3″.

Fold all the score lines and give it a good crease with your bone folder. Now fold it up so it creates a box and adhere it closed. The larger piece will stick out but that is intended

Now, adhere the three pieces of Basic White to each of the remaining three box sides to create your pinwheel as shown. So easy right?

OPTION: I also decided to round all the corners with my DETAILED TRIPLE PUNCH. I like how it looks with the rounded corners

Now to add the Designer Series paper. If you decide to round the corners, now is the time to do that with the DSP as well. Make sure you are only rounding the outside corners, leaving the inside corners square. You can see how each flap is finished in the pictures below

TIP: if using directional paper, make sure the direction is flowing top to bottom on the 4″ length and not the width.

For the first flap, I cut out the tree from the GINGERBREAD AND PEPPERMINT DSP and adhered to the card flap. I stamped the sleigh from the BE JOLLY stamp set and then coloured and cut out the gifts before adhering them to the card flap

For the second flap, I cut out a rectangle (retired) and stamped my greeting from a retired stamp set, then adhered to the card flap. The little bird was stamped, coloured and cut out then adhered to the flap as well.

For the third flap, I created the gift card holder by adhering one of the triangles to a flap, taking care to add adhesive to side and bottom only so you can slip a card inside. I stamped Santa from the BE JOLLY stamp set on scrap white card stock, I then coloured Santa with my BLENDER PENS before cutting him out. I then adhered him to the card flap.

For the last flap, I stamped the TO AND FROM, onto the flap directly than stamped the bird, coloured and adhered it to the flap. I then cut out the ornament from the GINGERBREAD AND PEPPERMINT DSP and adhered it to the card flap.

OPTION: You could also decorate all four flaps if you wanted to, but I chose to leave one blank so I could can write something there..

Flap 1 – Front of card
Flap 4 – blank to write on
Flap 2 – Greeting
Card folds Flat into a standard envelope

Flap 3 – Gift Card holder

To finish off my envelope, I stamped Santa on the front then used some of the DSP to cover the envelope flap. After adhering it, I trimmed around the flap to remove any excess paper. This card folds so easy into an envelope but I just love how it stands on it’s own when you put it on a table top.

Revisiting an old favourite

Fall is approaching and these beautiful sunflowers only bloom for a few weeks from late summer through to September. I happen to live within a short drive from a Sunflower field and it is such a beautiful sight to drive by, don’t you think?

Well with the launch of the mini catalogue and Sale-a-bration going on until the end of September, we sometimes forget about all the beautiful stamps from the Annual Catalogue. Today I am revisiting an old favourite to show a card I made using the Celebrating Sunflowers Stamp and Die’s. I made this card for a friend as a thank you for some much appreciated help. I wanted to acknowledge that.

The Celebrate Sunflowers stamp and dies are a wonderful and very easy way to showcase these beautiful flowers. When you stamp this flower, all the intricate details show up. You can then die cut out the image of the two flowers and leaves but you can also cut out the flower and leaf petal outlines for added interest.

Celebrate Sunflowers
Sunflower Dies
Cut out examples

To make this card

I took an 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2′ piece of Basic White card stock and scored it at 4 1/4″. After folding the card base in half, I glued a 2″ x 5 1/2″ piece of Wood Designer Series paper to the bottom of the card. This DSP is retired but I still have some in stock and it goes well with the flower colour.

On some scrap basic white, I stamped the large flower image in Crushed Curry ink then using several different blender pens, I coloured the flower. I then die cut out the image.

I also die cut out the petal outline and some of the leaf branches (they look like wheat to me) in gold foil. It’s a little tricky to line up all the many petals but they do line up perfectly. Once I did, I adhered it to the flower. By positioning my flower, I was able to position the branches and glued them down. I then added dimensionals to the back of my flower to pop it up on the card.

To finish my card, I stamped my sentiment on Bumble Bee card stock then heat embossed it with gold. After trimming around the sentiment, I added it to the card front as well. I then added a few gold embellishments to my card front, stamped the envelope with the smaller flower.

Although I didn’t make these, I wanted to show you some other images of what you can make this this lovely stamp set. These pictures can be found on my online store along with all the details of this set. To visit my online store, just CLICK HERE. 4 Card Designs with one 6″ x 6″ piece of DSP

Today I would like to show you how to make 4 cards using one 6″ x 6″ piece of Designer Series Paper. It’s a great way maximize your paper supply or an easy way to make up bulk cards as well.

For this card, I used the PARTY PUFFINS Stamp set which can be found in the May 2021-April 2021 Annual Catalogue. These cute little Puffins just scream personality don’t you think?

They also pair really well with the PENGUIN PALACE Stamp and Punch bundle. There is even matching PENGUIN PLAYMATES Designer Series Paper which is just one of many choices of FREE products you can choose with any $60.00 or $120.00 purchase during Sale-a-bration. Sale-a-bration lasts only until Sept 30 and then it’s over until next year so don’t delay, shop today! To shop or see more details, just click on the link to visit my ONLINE STORE. Don’t forget to use my September Host Code FWGF4ES4 when making purchases and you will receive a free gift from me as well as a thank you card.

TO MAKE THIS CARD

I chose the PATTERN PARTY Designer series paper for this design. This paper is available as a host product that includes 48 sheets of 12″ x 12″ paper. This is only available with Stampin’ Rewards with every qualifying order of $375.00 or more. So get some friends or family together to place a single order to qualify.

I cut a square at 6″ x 6″. As you can see in the pictures below, I lined up one corner at the 1 1/2″ mark at the top of my paper trimmer than positioned the bottom corner at the 1 1/2″ mark along the edge of my paper trimmer. After cutting the paper I turned my paper around and carefully positioned the two pieces in the same position and cut again. This gave me four unique pieces to make my cards.

TIP: Cut two squares of double sided paper and use both sides of the paper for even more card layouts.

OPTION: Mark you paper at the 1 1/2″ at each corner and draw a pencil line from corner to corner before cutting. Don’t forget to erase the lines afterwards.

If you want to mat each piece, you can cut out the card stock the same way. However, I choose to save some time. I took a 6 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ piece of Basic Black Card Stock to mat the pieces. Instead of cutting out the pieces separately, I decided to attach the DSP to the card stock then cut each piece out. You can see in the picture, the DSP is not perfectly aligned so be very careful when cutting this way. You now have four matted pieces of DSP

To make up my cards, I took four card bases in Basic White and then played around with the DSP pieces until I was happy with their positions. I then attached them to my card fronts so each card is a little different.

TIP: Be aware of directional patterns when placing your pieces

I then cut out my circles in Basic White and Basic Black. After stamping the adorable puffins, I glued them to the black circle at an offset, and popped them up with Dimensional’s on the card front.

To finish my cards. I stamped my greetings in Real Red then stamped the candles and cake around the cards. After colouring them with various blender pens, I added a few embellishments to just add to the fun.

Now I love how fun the cards above look and they would be perfect cards for young or the young at heart. However, they aren’t for everybody. Just by changing up the Designer Series paper, will completely change the look of your cards.

I am currently making some Christmas cards using the same method and thought I would share how they look (so far) just for a different perspective.

With these cards, I used the TIDINGS OF CHRISTMAS Designer Series Paper and positioned the DSP in the same spot on all four cards. I then stamped and heat embossed the sentiments in gold. To finish off my cards, I plan to add some foliage in red, green and gold, behind the Poinsettia’s to fill it in a bit.

I also plan to colour the flowers with Wink of Stella to make it sparkle and maybe add some bling to embellish the card fronts.

So what do you think? If you give it a try, I would love to see pictures of your cards.

A simple card suitable for a beginner

Today I would like to show you a simple card which is perfect for a beginner. Making up multiples of this card with different Designer Series Paper will change the overall look of each card and you could use different sentiments as well.

To make up this card

  1. Score the 4 1/4 x 11” at 5 1/2″ then fold in half. Crease with a bone folder.
  2. Emboss the 4 x 5 1/2” piece with an embossing folder of your choice. For this card I used the “Painted Textures” embossing folder.
  3. Attach the 1 3/4” x 4” piece of DSP to the embossed layer.
  4. Wrap baker’s twine around the embossed card stock twice and tie a bow
  5. Attach to the Card front with Adhesive
  6. Adhere the 3” x 4” piece of DSP to the 3 1/4″ x 4 1/4″ piece of Soft Succulent Card Stock, then add dimensionals to the back before attaching it to the card front.
  7. Stamp your sentiment on the strip of Basic White Card Stock and attach to card with dimensionals.
  8. Using the scrap card stock, stamp or punch out decorations and attach to card front with dimensionals and decorate with embellishments to finish off the card.

TiP: I add a little adhesive to to back of the embossed card stock. It makes wrapping the twine easier if it is held in place. and attach layer to card base.

For the envelope I added DSP by glueing it to the flap and then trimmed it down to the flap shape and size. It just looks prettier that way.

For the inside, I stamped my sentiment from the “Lighthearted Lines” Stamp set with the Soft Succulent Ink. It has nine fun sayings to add to cards. I just love it. I then adhered it to the Soft Succulent mat before attaching it to the inside of the card.

Here is another example of a card made with the exact same layout. As you can see, just changing it up a bit with different colours and Designer Series Paper, changes the look of the card completely. For this card I used the sentiments from the Snow Flake Wishes bundle and die cut a couple of snowflakes to place on the card as well.

It is so simple to make and takes very little time to put it all together.

I CONFESS, I’M A HOARDER

Have you ever watched the hoarder shows on TV. The houses are usually so stuffed with well… stuff, that you can barely walk into any room in the house and it takes days or weeks for people to clean it out? I am not one of those people but as a crafter, I do hoard all my crafting supplies. I just love all my stamps, my card stock, designer series paper, ribbons, embellishments etc. However, it was getting a little out of hand so it was time for some cleaning and organizing.

First of all I took all my Paper Pumpkin stamps from past kits and got them all organized. I have been a subscriber for years and always look forward to the next month’s kit. It’s a great way to create new projects and I love how all the stamps and ink blots add to my supplies. So that being said, It took a while but by printing out all the cover sheets for each kit. I folded them so the stamp is inside, it allows me to see the picture on one side and the stamped images on the other all nicely stored in clear cellophane bags. The picture is just a small sample of what I am talking about. All the little bits left over from each kit were also organized and I was able to get rid of quite a few boxes from my small crafting space.

This month’s kit includes enough supplies to create 12 treat boxes—4 each of 3 designs. That means you can take your pick of apple, pumpkins, or jack-o-lantern treat boxes! Plus, the Paper Pumpkin box is designed to easily transform into a vintage wheelbarrow for you to display your harvest! Whether you’re thinking about crisp red apples or you’re ready to carve some spooky jack-o-lanterns (or both!), the Haunts & Harvest Paper Pumpkin Kit—designed in a vivid fall palette—is a hands-on crafting experience for all autumn lovers!

If you want to receive a monthly Paper Pumpkin kit every month, CLICK HERE to subscribe. You can cancel or skip a month by putting it on hold at any time and there is no penalty to do so. I love that!

You can also purchase pre-paid kits for 1, 3, 6 or 12 months and those purchases will count towards Sale-a-bration FREE STUFF. With every $60 or $120 purchase you can choose a FREE PRODUCT from the Sale-a-bration brochure. What better way to get FREE STUFF! To visit my online store and see for yourself, CLICK HERE. If you can’t resist and make a purchase, be sure to use my August HOST CODE – QNYF6RAE and you will automatically receive a Thank you card and a free gift from me . My host code changes every month so a new one will be available tomorrow and posted to my website.

Next I spent some time, completing one of the many card kits that Stampin’ Up! has to offer. I had purchased this kit a while ago and never even opened it, so it was time to get started. I love this kit and I couldn’t wait to send the large Butterly card to my 5 yr old granddaughter, just because. I have been sending her cards every month or so for years and she loves getting mail from grandma. I love sending them too! This kit has already sold out so is no longer available but you can see what other card kits are available by visiting my online store. Just CLICK HERE

So after cleaning up and making some room I got to work on prepping for my next card class. There is only one spot left and I am looking forward to getting together with all the ladies. Below is just one of the cards we’ll be making and I have to say, I love the Blossoms and Bloom Bundle. It not only has beautiful dies which can be cut out and adhered to the front of the card with ease but it lines up perfectly with the flower stamp as well. As you can see, there are also lots of sentiments available to use as well.

TIP: I use the adhesive sheets for the outline die and it makes it so easy to overlay the outline die with the larger floral die AND there is no mess this way.

TIP: This is a large die so you will need Block “F” to stamp it. If you don’t have that block, you can use your Stamparatus plate to position your stamp. This will also allow you to re-stamp if your image isn’t quite perfect.

Below are a couple of other cards I have made using this set. After die cutting out the flowers and adhering the outline to them, I was able to cut it up and make two cards from the one die… so versatile.

If you want to see future posts, I invite you to like and follow my blog so you won’t miss out. If you would like to be added to my email newsletter, please provide your contact information here. I provide monthly emails with all the latest updates so you won’t miss out.

Until next time, happy crafting!

Helpful Tip Tuesday – Punches & Sentiments

Today I want to talk about punches and sentiments. Punches make creating easy. You can easily stamp an image on some card stock such as a Daisy, as shown or a moose, a heart, butterfly etc and with a click you have punched it out and you are done. Easy right?

I love all of my punches but I sometimes find it frustrating to find that perfect punch for the sentiment I want to use. So with that in mind, I am sharing something I am working on today and thought you might find it useful too. Below is the punch template I am talking about.

Each template is 3 1/2″ by 3 1/2″ cut on Thick White card stock

First of all, I covered a sheet of thick card stock on one side, with a self laminating sheet to provide protection and reduce wear and tear. I then cut out my template sheets at 3 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ so they will all be uniform in size. I used my punch in the bottom corner to punch out the image (in this case a 2″ circle) I then labelled the back with the name of the punch and the catalogue item number for easy reference. When I have completed. all my templates, I will punch a small hole in the top left corner so all the templates can be added to a binder ring and kept together easily. This way I can add more as I get additional punches.

By creating these templates, it will be quite easy to lay it over a stamped image to see if it fits and makes designing a card a little simpler. With a quick glance, you can see the two images on the right are not big enough for this sentiment. However the two on the left do fit, so I now have two options to choose from.

With just a little bit of advance preparation, I will have on hand, an easy reference tool for my stamped images. It may seem like a bit of work initially, but I will be able to use this over and over again so it will be well worth it. As I acquire additional punches, I’ll be able to easily add a template to my binder ring (I have blank templates made up as well)

Once you have them all together, it allows you to easily flip through your punch openings to see what will fit over your stamped image or sentiment by placing the label openings over it. You can also line it up on your card front to see which label will fit best with your design. This will save you time and frustration and make card making just a bit easier.

Now if you don’t have a lot of punches or labels for your sentiments, I want to introduce you to the Many Messages stamp and die bundle. This is a new product in the Mini Stampin’ Up! catalogue (Jan-Jun 2021) and I love all the different stamped sayings and the varied outlines. This stamp makes it so easy to craft quick cards with no fuss. You can prepare your stamped sentiments for a variety of occasions ahead of time so you are always prepared.

This bundle comes with just one rubber stamp and one die cut so you can stamp all the sentiments at once. I suggest you stamp it several times if various ink colours, then die cut them all out at the same time to use immediately or save for future projects, AND you know they will fit perfectly. For a different look, you could stamp your card stock as a background on your card base. To die cut the images, all you need to do is line up the little stars and heart over the stamped image for a perfect fit. How easy is that? A word of caution though, this stamp set is large so you will need the acrylic block “F” or a large surface to mount it on, such as a flat cutting plate or your stamparatus plate. This particular block is currently on back order due to it’s popularity but you can order it with your regular order and it will be shipped to you automatically when it becomes availalable (no extra shipping charge)

These are all the block sizes available from Stampin’ Up! Block “F” is in the top left corner so you can get an idea of it’s size.

You can purchase just the Many Messages Stamp or the Many Messages Die, separately, however by purchasing them as a bundle, you will save 10%. Don’t forget, during Sale-a-bration, you will also be able to earn FREE products from the Sale-a-bration brochure with every $60 or $120 qualified purchase from either the mini or annual catalogue. Is sending cards worthwhile?

Do you think that sending cards is dying off with all the electronic ways of sending emails, texts etc? Well it is not. There are over a billion cards sent out every year from all over the world. There is even a National Card Making day the first Monday of every October. After all, you don’t display an email on your mantle or a text on your fridge. Cards mean someone is thinking about you and that you matter. What better way to stay in touch. The picture above is just a very small sample of cards I have received in the past couple of months. I love how each one is different and I know that love and caring went into every card.

People often ask me where I get inspiration for my cards. Well, did you see my picture above? I love sending and receiving cards from friends, family and other crafters. I don’t think a week goes by when I don’t receive a card or two and every one inspires me to create. Every time I check the mail, I smile when something other than a bill or flyer is waiting for me. I call cards my “Happy Mail” Each card is like a hug from someone special and for the cost of a stamp, I can send a hug back, all packed up in a card with a fold in the middle.

Receiving cards makes you feel less alone, especially when we are staying home so much. How can you not smile when you receive a lovely card with a note tucked inside. Sending a card works the same way. It will make you feel like you are staying in touch and connecting with others. I bet you will get a reply some way, via a phone call, an email or text saying thank you for the card. It starts a conversation all for the price of a stamp.

For those who think “I don’t know that many people” I have a solution for you. Start with your friends and family; sending a card to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, get well cards, holidays, sympathy, graduation, Easter, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day. There are so many reasons to send a card. Don’t be concerned if you don’t receive cards back, it takes time. You can also do a search online for Pen Pals or card swaps. There are all sorts and all it takes is a little effort and you will be receiving cards in no time. I guarantee it will boost your spirit and put you in a happy place!

So how do you get started? All you need is some paper card stock, some Designer series paper (patterned paper) a stamp (for the sentiments) and a little ink to stamp with as well as an acrylic block to mount your stamp on. From there, your options are limitless. Click on the link to visit my online store to see all the possibilities. If you need help getting started, contact me and I will be glad to help you.
